Carolina Rest Home Staff
We are a family.
I have worked for Carolina Rest Home for 20 years. I started working as a personal care aide and loved working one on one with the residents and building a relationship with them. For 19 years, I have been working as a Med Tech and love my job, and the people I have met and developed relationships with along the way. My favorite thing about being a Med Tech is working with the residents, both the long-time residents and getting to know the newcomers.
I moved to Roanoke Rapids from Reidsville, NC to live. When I started working at Carolina Rest Home, I didn't know anyone and didn't have any friends or family. During that time, Carolina Rest Home became my family and still is to this day. I have worked at Carolina Rest Home for 16 years. My favorite thing about being the manager is being able to help and assist others. I am a nurturer at heart, I love to take care of others and help get their affairs in order. Everyone has a time in their life when they need help, and that is what we are here for. I love to see the relief on residents and families' faces when they know we can assist them in any way. The process gets a little confusing for some of them and we are here to make it as smooth as possible because it's already stressful moving to a new environment.
I volunteered for a year before I was employed at Carolina Rest Home. My mom was a resident, so I would come to do activities with the residents and visit with my mom. I have worked at Carolina Rest Home for two years. My favorite thing about being an Activities Director is seeing the spark in someone that is difficult to reach and knowing that they understand. I like to offer varied activities to reach as many residents as possible. I also like visiting one on one in their rooms to find out where their interest lies.
My name is Latina Edmonds (Tina), and I have been working at Carolina Rest Home for 20 years. My favorite thing about my job is the family environment; I don't work in a facility, I work in a home. Since I've been here, I've gained grandma's, grandpa's, aunts, and uncles. It's sad to say that sometimes we are all they have. People sometimes don't realize how far a kind word, a hug, or a kiss can mean to someone. I have worked my way up at Carolina. In August 2000, I started as a cook. Mrs. Kelly, our previous boss, saw something in me, so she pushed me to become a PCA and a Med Tech. When she was sick, I promised her I would walk in this door every day as if she were still here. I am now the Assistant Manager.
